Baylor-Carroll Sweeps Conference POTY Awards, Curry Named All-Conference

LATHAM, N.Y. - Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball player Donyae Baylor-Carroll swept the United East Volt Division Player of the Year awards, while he and teammate Nate Curry garnered first-team all-conference recognition for their efforts this season. 

 

Baylor-Carroll was named the United East Volt Division Player of the Year and the United East Volt Division Defensive Player of the Year. He also joined Curry on the United East Volt Division All-Conference First Team. 

 

Baylor-Carroll becomes the first player in program history to earn two conference player of the year awards during his career after receiving the same accolade following the 2019-20 campaign. He also becomes the program's first player to be named conference defensive player of the year. His most recent first-team all-conference honor is the third of his career. 

 

This season, Baylor-Carroll is averaging a team-high 18.7 points per game. The versatile guard is the NCAA Division III active 3-point leader (347) and currently leads the nation in total steals (100) and steals per game (3.57). The senior also ranks 10th in the country in total assists (147), 19th in assists per game (5.2), and 38th in total points (523). The Harrisburg, Pa. native recorded three double-doubles this season and was recently named the United East Championship Tournament MVP after averaging 29.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 6.3 steals across three playoff victories. He was twice named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week and earned eight United East Volt Division Player of the Week plaudits, including four offensive player of the week honors and four defensive player of the week accolades. Earlier this winter, he became the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,939 points and counting. 

 

With his latest accolade, Curry becomes a four-time all-conference honoree. His most recent first-team all-conference honor is the third of his career and fourth overall after garnering second-team recognition following his sophomore campaign. 

 

Curry is averaging 14.1 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game on 50 percent shooting from the field this season. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native currently ranks 47th in the nation in total rebounds (247) and has racked up eight double-doubles on the year. The senior forward netted a game-high 21 points and added six rebounds and four assists in Saturday's United East Championship Game victory over St. Elizabeth. He was named the United East Volt Division Offensive Player of the Week in mid-November after scoring a game-best 21 points with nine rebounds against nationally-ranked John Carroll. 

 

Penn State Harrisburg (24-4) won its third United East Championship in the last four seasons over the weekend and will begin NCAA Tournament play at Guilford in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday night. The Lions face Hood in their first round matchup at 5:30 p.m.
