Men's Basketball Powers Past CCNY

donyae baylor-carroll drives to the hoop during a win over cabrini in 2023

NEW YORK – Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team ran away from The City College of New York (CCNY) in a convincing 80-57 non-conference road victory on Monday night, Dec. 4.

Donyae Baylor-Carroll poured in a game-high 26 points to go along with five assists and five rebounds. Nate Curry and Alex Leiba each recorded double-doubles, with Curry finishing with 10 points and a game-high 14 boards and Leiba adding 13 points and 13 rebounds. Chase Robinson was the fourth player to reach double figures with 11 points and five assists.

With the Lions (8-1) holding a one-point lead midway through the first half, Baylor-Carroll caught fire from distance and knocked down three straight jumpers from beyond the arc and followed it up with a layup to push the advantage to 28-19 at the 5:16 mark.

Robinson gave the visitors its first double-digit lead when he flushed a two-handed dunk following a Lance Douglas steal and feed 30 seconds later. Baylor-Carroll sank his fifth 3-ball of the opening half the next time down the floor and Penn State Harrisburg took a 37-28 advantage into halftime.

Leiba opened the second half with back-to-back slams off feeds from Curry and Baylor-Carroll but a couple of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws drew the Beavers (5-3) to within five points with 15:08 left to play.

CCNY cut the deficit to as little as 45-41 at the 14:59 mark but the Lions put together a game-changing 14-0 run that included a pair of Curry triples and a Baylor-Carroll old-fashioned 3-point play with 11:40 remaining. The home team pulled to within 14 with six minutes left but the Lions put things out of reach when a Baylor-Carroll jumper and another Leiba dunk put them ahead by 20-plus for the first time with little more than two minutes to play.
