Men's Basketball Shoots Lights Out In Win Over Berks

READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team put together its most complete game of the season in an impressive 96-67 road victory over United East foe Penn State Berks on Tuesday night, Jan. 24. 

 

Reigning United East Player of the Week Nate Curry continued his excellent play as of late, recording another double-double with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Chase Robinson was also stellar, racking up a career-high 18 points and four steals. Zegary Scott III added 13 points and four assists, while Alex Leiba was the fourth player to reach double figures with 10 points. 

 

Penn State Berks (5-10, 3-5 United East) jumped out to an 18-11 lead but Penn State Harrisburg (8-9, 5-3 United East) battled back and eventually pulled ahead for the first time when a Malik Holland 3-ball made it 22-21 with 9:03 left in the first half. Scott added a couple of layups and Robinson converted one of his own to complete a 12-0 run at the 6:16 mark.

 

A Curry offensive rebound and putback gave Penn State Harrisburg its largest lead of the first half at 44-31 but the home team closed it out with a 5-0 to cut the deficit to eight heading into the break.

 

Penn State Harrisburg opened the second half with back-to-back triples from Curry and Chris Haynes and after the hometown Lions cut the deficit to single digits with 14:37 remaining, the visitors put their foot on the gas and used a timely 24-3 run to blow the game open and pull ahead by 30 for the first time thanks to a Leiba free throw with 6:41 to play. 

 

NOTABLES

- Penn State Harrisburg matched a single-game program record by shooting 65.5 percent from the field, including a blistering 80.8 percent in the second half. 

- The visiting Lions won the rebounding battle 35-21. 

- Penn State Harrisburg scored 52 points in the paint, compared to just 18 points in the painted area for Penn State Berks.

- Penn State Harrisburg's bench outscored the hometown Lions' reserves 43-23.

- Curry shot 71.4 percent from the floor en route to scoring a game-high 23 points. He pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds to record his fifth double-double of the season.

- Robinson shot 61.5 percent from the field, netting 18 points and adding four steals, four boards, and three assists.

- Scott scored 13 points, dished out four assists, and grabbed three rebounds. 

- Leiba added 10 points off the bench. 

- Isaiah Eggleston and Chris Haynes chipped in with seven points apiece, while Robert Bobeck added six points in a reserve role.

- Penn State Harrisburg's 96 points were the most scored in a single game since racking up 103 in a win at Penn State Berks last season.

The Lions will take the short trip east to face the United East leaders from Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon.
