Men's Hoops Heading to WPI to Face No. 9 St. Joseph (Conn.) In NCAA Tournament First Round Action

INDIANAPOLIS – Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team is heading back to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, as revealed by the tournament selection committee on Monday afternoon, Feb. 28.

 

The Lions (23-3) won their second consecutive United East Championship on Saturday night to clinch the league's automatic qualifier. Penn State Harrisburg will take on No. 9 St. Joseph (Conn.) (26-1) at Harrington Auditorium on the campus of No. 13 Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the team's first-round contest at 3:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon, March. 4. The Blue & White and the Blue Jays are joined in the region at WPI by the host Engineers (24-2) and Vassar (18-8). The winners of Friday's matchups will meet in second-round action on Saturday afternoon.

 

 

All tournament games leading up to the national semifinals will be played on the campuses of the competing institutions. Sixteen sites will host four teams for first-and second round competition, with second-round winners advancing to the Sweet 16 in two weeks. Winners of the four quarterfinal contests will advance to the Elite Eight, with those winners moving on to the Final Four. Both the Final Four and national championship will be contested in Fort Wayne, Ind. The national championship game will be played on March 19.
