Scott Shines as Men's Hoops Sets Program-Record Win Streak

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Behind a career night from Zegary Scott III, Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team won its ninth straight game to set the program record for consecutive wins with a 92-74 road victory over United East foe Penn College on Friday night, Jan. 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Behind a career-high 24 points from Zegary Scott III and a strong second-half effort, Penn State Harrisburg (12-1, 5-0 United East) ran away from Penn College (2-9, 2-2 United East) for its ninth win in a row; the longest win streak in modern program history. Brandon Coleman netted 14, Donyae Baylor-Carroll had 13 points, Dylan Daniels added 12, and Pedro Rodriguez chipped in with 10 off the bench.

Clinging to a slim 49-47 lead at the break, the Lions erupted after halftime to the tune of a 23-4 run over an eight-minute span to begin the second half. Scott converted four layups to get the spurt started before Nate Curry knocked down a jumper from beyond the arc to make it 60-49 and prompt a Penn College timeout at the 16:09 mark. Coleman connected on a 3-ball, Scott and Baylor-Carroll added layups before the latter connected on two free throws, and Rodriguez closed out the run with a layup off Baylor-Carroll feed.

The visitors grabbed their largest lead of the night when Chris Haynes buried his second trifecta, this one off another Baylor-Carroll find, to push the advantage to 82-56 with eight a half minutes left to play. Coleman hammered home a two-handed, fastbreak jam moments later and the starters gave way to the Blue & White bench, with Lance Douglas and Donald Friday Jr. getting into the scoring act to put a bow on the latest victory.

Penn State Harrisburg jumped out to a 13-6 lead following an old-fashioned 3-point play from Coleman but the Wildcats clawed back into it and used a 12-4 run to grab their largest lead of the game with 9:43 left in the first half. The Lions settled down and put together a 10-0 run of their own that culminated with a Rodriguez 3-ball two and a half minutes later.

The teams traded the lead 10 more times before the end of the half but the Blue & White turned it on after the break and proved too much for their conference counterparts in the final 20 minutes.
