How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg gave Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Mary Washington a scare in a 68-62 loss at UMW's Ron Rosner Arena on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 9.

Kahlil Williams did his part, scoring a game-high 24 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to record his third double-double in a row. Donyae Baylor-Carroll was the only other Penn State Harrisburg player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with 14 points.

Trailing by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Lions (13-10, 5-7 CAC) rallied in the final seconds to give themselves a chance in crunch time. A pair of free throws put the Eagles (16-7, 8-4 CAC) ahead by nine with 47 ticks remaining but Baylor-Carroll was a one-man show from beyond the arc, knocking down back-to-back triple to pull the visitors to within three with 34 seconds to play.

Mary Washington converted two more free throws to push the home team's advantage but Baylor-Carroll hit another jumper from distance to draw his team to within 64-62 with 17 seconds left. The Blue & White continued to foul but the Eagles closed out the contest by going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to seal the narrow win.

The visitors trailed 33-21 at the break but did well to cut the deficit to single digits throughout the second half. Penn State Harrisburg's ability to answer UMW's early push allowed the Lions to keep themselves in it and nearly pull off the upset on the road.

Inside the Numbers

- Mary Washington shot 42.6 percent from the field, while the Lions shot 36.1 percent from the floor.

- Both teams managed to connect on just six 3-pointers on the day.

- The Eagles won the rebounding battle 40-36.

- Penn State Harrisburg racked up 20 points off 11 UMW turnovers.

- Kahlil Williams turned in another strong outing with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll buried four 3-pointers en route to scoring 14 points. He also dished out four assists.

- Keenan Wise finished with eight points off the bench.

- Brandon Coleman added seven points, four boards and three assists.

- Johnny Cronin led the way for the Eagles with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
