How It Happened

You name it, it worked during Penn State Harrisburg's 80-54 rout of Messiah at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1.

Gbolahan Alliyu's swatting prowess in the paint. All that and more was top notch in the most impressive victory of the young season for the Lions (6-1).

Baylor-Carroll flirted with a double-double, pouring in a game-high 21 points and dishing out eight assists, while Bing posted his second double-double in as many outings thanks to 16 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Scott was the third Harrisburg player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with 11 points.

Thanks to a tenacious defensive effort, the Blue & White raced out to a commanding 16-point advantage following a Baylor-Carroll layup at the 11:18 mark of the opening half. Bing kept the lead at 16 with an elbow jumper at the 9:35 mark and Nelson's offensive board and put back pushed the Lions' advantage to 29-11 with 6:37 remaining in the first half.

An old-fashioned 3-point play by Brandon Coleman gave the home team its largest lead of the first half at 19 at the 3:18 mark but the Falcons (4-4) put together a 13-3 run to close out the half, cutting the deficit to a more manageable 37-28 heading into the break.

Messiah came out of the locker room with momentum on its side but back-to-back jumpers from beyond the arc by Baylor-Carroll and Scott turned the tide back in favor of Penn State Harrisburg early in the second half. The Lions' effort went from good to great when the team took total control during a game-changing 15-0 run over a span of five minutes just before the midway point of the second half.

Colin Sareyka tried to keep his Falcons in it with a couple of contested jumpers but Nelson, Scott, Baylor-Carroll and co. forced turnover after turnover that resulted in several transition buckets stemming from pretty no-look and behind-the-back passes from Baylor-Carroll to Kahlil Williams and Scott.

Baylor-Carroll put the game on ice when he went 3-for-3 from the charity stripe to put the Blue & White ahead by 30 points with 3:19 left to play.

Inside the Numbers

- The Blue & White defense held Messiah to a season-low point total on Saturday.

- Penn State Harrisburg shot 50 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from 3-point territory.

- The Lions held the Falcons to 34.4 percent shooting from the field and just 17.4 percent (4-of-23) shooting from beyond the arc.

- Harrisburg assisted on 21 of its 30 made field goals.

- The Lions won the rebounding battle 41-35.

- The Blue & White forced 15 Messiah turnovers and scored 21 points off Falcon miscues.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 21 points, eight assists and five steals.

- Chris Bing recorded his second double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 boards.

- Zegary Scott III netted 11 to go along with four assists, a steal and one rebound.

- Kahlil Williams fought through foul trouble to post eight points.

- Ibn-Haneef Nelson finished with six points, four boards, four assists and three steals.

- Despite foul trouble, Gbolahan Alliyu finished with five blocks to go along with four points and four rebounds.

- Keenan Wise knocked down a pair of treys off the bench, while Brandon Coleman added four points in a reserve role.

- Pedro Rodriguez netted four, including a first-half buzzer beater, to record the first collegiate points of his young career.

- Colin Sareyka scored a team-high 20 points to lead Messiah.
