Penn State Harrisburg Starts Off Season Strong

Middletown, Pa.  – The Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team started their season strong facing off with the Haverford University Fords.  Despite being in the lead for the majority of the contest, the visitors hung tough throughout, but eventually fell to the more dominate Lions 62-56.  

Penn State Harrisburg Starters:

Jazmon Harris (Baltimore, Md./ Patterson), Khalil White (Philadelphia, Pa./ Cheltenham), Marquese Daniels (Philadelphia, Pa./ Philadelphia Electric and Tech. Charter), Gbolahan Alliyu (Philadelphia, Pa./ Central), Kahlil Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./ Central)

Haverford Starters:

Kyle Goldfarb, Matt Sherman, Sam Stogdon, Kahlil Garnes, Joe Scibelli.

How it Happened:

The Lions got on the board first taking an early 4-0 lead that was overcome quickly by the visitors with a 12-3 run over the next few minutes to give the Ford a 12-7 lead.  Both teams exchanged buckets for the remainder of the half, until the Lions   turned it on for the final three minutes to take a seven-point lead at the half 28-21. 

Penn State looked dominate for most of the second half taking as much as a 17-point lead with just under ten minutes to play.  Haverford never quit and made timely buckets to slowly creep into contention setting up an exciting final minute.  In the end, the Lions regained their composure and closed out their final possessions to leave the court with the victory. 

Inside the numbers:

Both teams shot well with Harrisburg having a slight edged at 45 percent to Haverfords 41. The Lion's could have likely won by double digits if it was not for Haverford dominating on the boards with 32 rebounds throughout the matchup. In the end Haverfords 19 turnovers were too much to overcome compared to Harrisburgs 11.   

Impact Performers:

Jazmon Harris led the Lion's with 17 points, followed up by Kahlil White who had 13. Kahlil Williams dominated the glass tallying 13 rebounds along with his 11 points. Joe Scibelli led the visitors with 2o points and 15 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the 3 point line.

What's Next: 

Penn State Harrisburg will face New Rochelle on Saturday November 19th at 1 pm for the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Tournament.
