Penn State Harrisburg Wins Seventh-Straight

MIDDLETOWN, Pa- The Lions used one of their strongest all-around efforts of the season to pick up a big win over Keuka on Sunday, Jan. 16.  Five Penn State Harrisburg players netted double-digit points on their way to a dominant 92-68 victory in front of a sizable hometown crowd of nearly 150 fans.

Will Doyle (Franklin, VA/Tidewater Academy) had the hot hand early on and scored seven of the Lions first 12 points.  Senior captain Kenton Alston (Harrisburg, PA/Steel-High) was also strong out of the gate, knocking down the opening shot of the contest from beyond the arc and adding two more field goals to push the home team's widening advantage to 18-5 at the 15:00 mark.

The Storm spent the rest of the first half trying to fight back into it but every time Keuka showed signs of life, the blue and white had an answer.

After an Alston jump shot stretched the lead to 20 with 6:18 left in the half, the Storm went on a 6-0 run to make things more manageable for the visitors.  But another Alston layup three minutes later pushed the advantage back to 18 and halted any momentum Keuka had gained.

The Lions led 47-31 at the break and continued to pour it on when the second half got underway.  After getting into early foul trouble, Steve Jones (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the final stanza.

Penn State Harrisburg's largest lead of the afternoon came following two Alberto De Los Santos (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) free throws that made it 74-48 with 11:36 remaining in the game.

Coty Paige (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) was the Storm's high scorer with 16 points.  Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) was the only other Keuka player to notch double-digits with 11.

Aside from his point total, Jones collected a team-best eight rebounds to go along with his two steals.  Alston dropped in 14 and recorded a game-high four blocks, bringing his team-leading season total to 52.  Doyle finished with 13 points, five boards and two assists.  Jordan Gatchell (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) was the Lions' high assist man with seven and Amani Glenn (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) added ten tallies for the blue and white.

Penn State Harrisburg also got an encouraging outing from Glenn's fellow CD East alum in forward Dave Reisinger (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East).  After battling an ankle injury for most of the season, the senior big man played 13 minutes and logged 11 points and four rebounds.

The win was the blue and white's school record-setting seventh straight and fifth on the year against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponents.  The Lions remain undefeated in conference play (12-3 overall) and currently sit alone atop the South Division standings.

Penn State Harrisburg will look to continue its recent winning streak when the team travels to Gallaudet for another crucial NEAC showdown on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
