ANNVILLE, PA - The Penn State Harrisburg men´s basketball team left the Rinso Marquette Tournament held at Lebanon Valley College this weekend 1-2 on the season but opened many Penn State Harrisburg fan´s eyes with their up-tempo offense and swarming defense.

The Nittany Lion´s opening match put them against host team, Lebanon Valley, who handed the blue and white a 108-53 lost a season ago.

This game would prove to be a different story with Harrisburg hanging with the Dutchmen the first six minutes of play with sophomore Kenton Alston (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire)tying the game at 11 apiece. After a Lebanon Valley timeout the Dutchmen went on a 12-3 run with 9:41 remaining in the first half.

The Nittany Lion´s were able to close within five, but the home team finished out the half with a 25-18 run capped off by a Joe Meehan half-court shot to but the Dutchmen up by twelve, 48-36.

In the second half, Penn State Harrisburg was able to pull within two with 14:30 remaining and within three with 9:53 remaining, but timely three-pointers by Lebanon Valley and missed opportunities by the Nittany Lions, the Dutchmen stretched their lead to 19 to secure the 87-68 win.

In Sunda´s matchup, the Nittany Lions were unable to get anything started against Rutgers-Newark, losing in a one sided match, 89-52.

Leading the way for Penn State Harrisburg was Steve Jones (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) who averaged 17.5 points shooting 41.7% from the field, 6.0 rebounds while collecting seven steals for the tournament. Alston finished with 15.5 points on 42.9% shooting, 5.5 rebounds with 5 blocks for the tournament. Jones was named to the All-Tournament team for his outstanding play against Lebanon Valley College in which he scored 28 points off 13-for-26 shooting with eight rebounds and five steals in 35 minutes of play.

Following the holiday break, Penn State Harrisburg will host Valley Forge Christian College Tuesday, December 1st at the Capital Union Building. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 P.M.
