Baseball Continues to Receive Votes In Both National Polls

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team continued to receive votes in both the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Poll and ABCA/Collegiate Baseball National Poll, while also holding the fourth spot in the NCAA Division III Region IV Rankings.

 

Fresh off winning the program's third straight United East Championship over the weekend, the Lions received 28 votes in the latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball National Poll and 23 votes in the most-recent D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Poll. Penn State Harrisburg also ranks fourth in the final NCAA Division III Region IV ranking of the spring. The Lions have five wins over nationally-ranked opponents this season in Arcadia (twice), Randolph-Macon, Rowan, and Salisbury.  

 

As a team, Penn State Harrisburg ranks top-five in the nation in scoring (11.1), runs (476), batting average (.365), hits (560), on-base percentage (.462), slugging percentage (.566), and walks (257), as well as top-10 in the country in home runs (59). 

 

Individually, Carlos Irizarry was recently named the United East Rookie of the Year and joined Maddux RyanKevin Lehner, Matt Parks, Dallas Hite, Fisher Druck, and Josh Berzonski on the United East All-Conference First Team, while Brendan Henn and Danny Eden earned all-conference second-team honors. 

 

The Lions (33-10) will compete in their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament this weekend when they host No. 2 Salisbury for a best-of-five regional series beginning on Friday at 12 p.m. The series is scheduled to run from May 19-21.
