Baseball Halts No. 1 Salisbury's 14-Game Win Streak

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Behind a stellar start from Danny Eden and timely home runs from Matt Parks and Lucas Floyd on Sunday afternoon, Penn State Harrisburg wrapped up the weekend with an 8-2 victory over No. 1 Salisbury that halted the Sea Gulls' 14-game win streak.

Eden earned the win after allowing just two runs on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings thrown. Parks hit a three-run home run in the second inning, Floyd added a solo shot in the sixth, and Brendan Henn had a three-hit day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Danny Eden worked hard to keep one of the nation's top offenses at bay and the bats backed him up in an 8-2 victory for Penn State Harrisburg (28-7) over No. 1 Salisbury (26-4) on Sunday afternoon. The win was the first-ever for the Lions against a program ranked No. 1 in the nation.

After Eden stranded a runner on third in the top of the first, Kevin Lehner got the scoring started in the bottom of the opening stanza when he reached on an error on a ground ball that drove in Dallas Hite from third base. Eden worked around a lead-off double in the second to keep Salisbury off the board and the Penn State Harrisburg offense came to life in the bottom half.

Blaine Waltimyer and Drew Bechtold got things started with back-to-back singles before Lucas Floyd drove in Waltimyer with a ground ball up the middle. After Hite reached on an error and Floyd advanced to third, Matt Parks crushed the first pitch he saw over deep into right field and over the fence to make it 5-0 Penn State Harrisburg heading to the third.

Eden stranded runners on the corners to end the top of the third and Hite scored on a passed ball and ensuing error after doubling to left center field in the bottom of the fourth.

The Sea Gulls started to stir in the sixth when they used three hits, including a Stephen Rice double and RBI singles from Jacob Ference and Scott Cameron to score a pair of runs and cut the deficit to 6-2. The Lions answered back in the home half, however, when Floyd led off with a solo home run to left field and Maddux Ryan singled past a diving Patrick Campbell at third base to drive in Brendan Henn with two away.

Eden struck out the last batter he faced in the top of the seventh and gave way to Joel Sneeringer for a relief effort that included two-plus scoreless innings. Salisbury opened the top of the ninth with a lead-off walk but Sneeringer followed it up with a strikeout, a pop up that was caught in foul territory by Ryan, and a flyout to Henn at second base to end the game.
