lucas floyd celebrates with teammates at home plate after hitting a grand slam in a win over gallaudet in 2023

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The bats were out in full force for Penn State Harrisburg baseball as the team set a new program record for hits (30) and matched the single-game program record for RBIs (29) in a 28-1 victory over United East foe Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon, April 1.

Lucas Floyd hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, while Carlos Irizarry finished 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, four RBIs, and three runs. Maddux Ryan and Josh Lantz each doubled twice, while Kevin Lehner and Brendan Henn had three hits apiece. Fisher Druck turned in a sterling start, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing just two hits to go along with seven strikeouts en route to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (16-5, 7-0 United East) put up runs in every inning except two in Saturday's convincing win over Gallaudet (7-18, 1-6 United East).

The Lions got things going right away as Lehner drove in the game's first run in the top of the first with a single to left field before Ryan drove in a pair with a single up the middle one at-bat later. They put up another crooked number in the second, with Matt Parks, Lehner, and Lantz all driving in runs to stretch the lead to 7-0.

Penn State Harrisburg pushed the advantage to double digits in the fourth thanks to another four-run frame that included RBIs from Irizarry, Tim Haftl, Floyd, and Dallas Hite. After another 1-2-3 top half from Druck, Floyd added to the cushion with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, it was Sam Merchant and Irizarry driving in runs, with Merchant plating Drew Bechtold with a sac fly and Irizarry tacking on three more with an inside-the-park home run.

The Bison got on the board with a lone run in the top of the seventh but the home team responded with nine runs on five hits, four hit by pitches, and two walks. Sam Thompson came on in relief and struck out a pair in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
