Hite, Merritt Sweep United East Baseball Weekly Awards

LATHAM, N.Y. - Penn State Harrisburg's Dallas Hite and Hunter Merritt have swept the United East Baseball Weekly Awards, with Hite being named the conference's player of the week and Merritt earning pitcher of the week recognition.

 

Hite had a hot start in three games at Ferrum over the weekend. The senior slashed .563/.650/.813 with a 1.463 OPS and racked up nine hits, including a triple and a pair of doubles. The Lilly, Pa. native tallied 13 total bases, scored eight runs, and drove in five more to go along with four walks and two stolen bases. He also finished with a perfect fielding percentage, eight putouts, and an assist from his outfield position.

 

Merritt turned in a strong start on the bump in a victory over the Panthers on Friday night, throwing five innings and allowing just one run on four hits and one walk to go along with three strikeouts. After his first outing of the season, the senior hurler holds a 1.80 earned run average (ERA). The Etters, Pa. native also fielded his position well, recording a pair of putouts with a perfect fielding percentage. 

 

The Lions (3-1) return to action when they host No. 15 Arcadia for a twin bill on Saturday afternoon, March 4.
