Gettys Leads Baseball's Six ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Picks

GREENSBORO, N.C.  – A program-record six Penn State Harrisburg baseball players have earned All-Region recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings.

 

Zach Gettys was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 4 First Team, while Drew Harshbarger, Dallas Hite, Kevin Lehner, and Matt Parks earned second-team all-region honors. Chase Smith was also named to the all-region third team.

 

Gettys earns the first all-region accolade of his career after he was named the United East Pitcher of the Year earlier this spring. The senior picked up first-team all-conference honors after ranking 16th in the nation in wins with nine. The lefty hurler also ranks 24th among Division III pitchers with 96 total strikeouts, as well as 27th in the country in strikeouts per nine innings (12.52). The York, Pa. native finished the year with a 3.00 ERA and a pair of saves after holding opposing hitters to a .202 batting average. He wraps up his illustrious career as the program's all-time leader in wins (21), strikeouts (281), innings pitched (235.1), and starts (45). Gettys was also named the United East Pitcher of the Week in mid-April (4/11).

 

Harshbarger earns his second all-region moniker from the ABCA after securing third-team honors a year ago. The senior ranks 32nd in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings (12.44), as well as 41st among Division III pitchers in total strikeouts (88). The McVeytown, Pa. native was tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-District earlier this month after being named to the United East All-Conference First Team this spring. He posted a 2.83 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched to go along with five wins this season. Harshbarger also earned United East Pitcher of the Week recognition in late March (3/21).  

 

Hite's most-recent accolade comes after the ABCA pegged him a first-team all-region honoree a year ago. A D3baseball.com Preseason All-American, the outfielder earned United East First-Team All-Conference honors after slashing .332/.388/.612 with a 1.000 OPS. The Lilly, Pa. native ranks 19th in the country with 14 home runs and 45th in the nation with 120 total bases this year to go along with 13 doubles, 52 RBI, 45 runs scored, 18 walks, and 20 stolen bases. He became just the 14th player in NCAA Division III history to hit two grand slams in a single game during a United East Tournament win over Penn College in early May (5/9).

 

Lehner burst onto the scene this season to garner the first all-region honor of his young career. The sophomore was named to the United East All-Conference Second Team after he slashed .365/.473/.679 with a 1.152 OPS. The Tyrone, Pa. native ranks 32nd among Division III players with 13 home runs this spring. The outfielder added 11 doubles, 44 RBI, 27 walks, and 13 stolen bases to go along with 54 runs scored.

 

For Parks, his second-team all-region accolade is his second in as many seasons from the ABCA. The junior was named to the United East All-Conference First Team for the second time after turning in another strong effort at the plate this spring. The corner infielder slashed .348/.516/.683 with a 1.199 OPS and ranked fourth in the nation with 49 walks. He also ranked 44th in the country with a dozen home runs and 50th among Division III players with 57 runs scored. The Three Springs, Pa. native added 16 doubles, 52 RBI, and 11 stolen bases this season. He was named the United East Championship Tournament MVP after slashing .706/.808/1.235 with a 2.043 OPS, a grand slam, four doubles, nine RBI, 11 runs scored, and nine walks across five tournament games.

 

Smith capped off his illustrious career with his first all-region honor. The team captain secured United East All-Conference Second-Team recognition after slashing .367/.484/.503 with a .987 OPS this spring. The center fielder's 21 hit by pitches rank 13th in the country and he also ranks 20th in the nation with 30 stolen bases and 45th among Division III players with 58 runs scored. The senior added three home runs, a pair of triples, 11 doubles, 39 RBI, and 20 walks this spring. One of just two players in program history to record 200 hits and score 200 runs, the Martinsburg, Pa. native ends his career with 224 total runs scored; the ninth-highest total in NCAA Division III history. Smith was also hit by 74 pitches during his career; a number good enough to rank sixth all-time among Division III players.
