Baseball Rolls to Non-Conference Victory Over York (Pa.)

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – In a battle of NCAA Tournament squads from a year ago, Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team rolled to a 14-5 victory over the defending MAC Commonwealth champions from York (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon, April 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (14-14) got back to the .500 mark thanks to a convincing 14-5 non-conference victory over York (14-13) on Tuesday afternoon.

Maddux Ryan and Kevin Lehner each hit 3-run home runs, while Ryan, Chase Smith, and Drew Sassaman all had multi-hit outings. Dallas Gilbert earned his first collegiate win on the mound after throwing 5.2 quality innings.

The Lions used a two-out rally in the bottom of the second to get on the board first, as a Sassaman double to right center drove in Brendan Henn and Robbie Skinner. Dallas Hite followed it up with single to left field that plated Sassaman to make it 3-0.

The Blue & White added three more runs in the bottom of the third when a Josh Lantz infield single allowed Matt Parks to come across before a single from Skinner drove in Henn and Lantz.

After the Spartans got on the board in the top of the fourth, the home team put together a third straight 3-run inning in the bottom of the frame thanks to Ryan's blast over the fence in the right field that brought Smith and Lehner around with him.

Penn State Harrisburg blew things open in the fifth when Smith scored Sassaman from first with a triple to right center and Lehner launched a 3-run shot of his own onto the top of the batting cage behind the left field fence to make it 13-1.

York (Pa.) got two back in the top of the sixth but Julian Belardo drove in the Lions' final run in the bottom of the seventh before reliever Danny Eden came on in the top of the ninth to put the finishing touches on the victory.
