How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg let one get away in a 6-4 loss to Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe York (Pa.) in the opening contest of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, March 23.

Chase Smith had a nice outing, recording three hits, including a two-run home run. Travis Van Houten added a pair of hits, including a double, and was stellar on the mound, racking up 11 strikeouts while not allowing an earned run.

The Lions (11-3-1, 3-1 CAC) took a 3-1 lead into the top of the ninth inning but the visiting Spartans (9-1, 4-0 CAC) took advantage of a Blue & White error and put together a five-run rally that gave the visitors a 6-3 leading heading into the final half of the final frame.

The home team brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom half and cut the deficit to two when Zachary Koroneos' single down the right field line scored Scott Angstadt Jr with two away. Unfortunately, the Lions were unable to tack on any more and York (Pa.) held on for the come-from-behind victory.

At the Plate

- Chase Smith led the way with three hits for Penn State Harrisburg, including a home run. He scored one run and drove in a pair.

- Travis Van Houten finished 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

- Zachary Koroneos was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

On the Mound

- Travis Van Houten was stellar for the Lions, getting the start and striking out 11 batters in seven innings of work without allowing an earned run on three hits.

- Tyler Jackson had a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the eight for the Blue & White.

- Zac Stoll earned the win for the Spartans, while Conor Miller picked up the save.

Around the Diamond

- Penn State Harrisburg committed three errors that led to five unearned runs.

- York (Pa.) had four defensive miscues, leading to one unearned run.

How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg was shut out in a 5-0 loss to York (Pa.) in the second game of a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, March 23.

The Lions (11-4-1 3-2 CAC) struggled to get the bats going, recording just one hit on the day. The visitors put up a pair of runs in the top of the first inning before tacking on one in each of the fourth, eighth and ninth innings.

Jackson Struve accounted for the Blue & White's lone hit in the bottom of the third but the home team was unable to get anything going, stranding him and ending any threat of getting on the board.

At the Plate

- Jackson Struve was the only Penn State Harrisburg player to record a base hit.

- Luke Turner had a home run for the Spartans.

- The game consisted of just two extra-base hits.

On the Mound

- Will Grega was stout for York (Pa.), allowing just one hit in nine innings and striking out 13 batters.

- Michael De Leon took the loss for the Lions, allowing three runs in four innings of work.

Around the Diamond

- Austin Denlinger stole the game's only base for the Spartans.

- The Lions committed the contest's only error.
