How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg erased an early deficit en route to a 7-4 road victory over Gettysburg at Kirchhoff Field in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon, March 19.

Four players in Bret Williams, Travis Van Houten, Ryan McSorley and Tyler Aug had multi-hit days, with Van Houten and McSorley each driving in a pair of runs. On the mound, Mason Vogwill, Austin Kunkel and Tyler Stabley combined to allow just two runs, with Kunkel earning the win and Stabley picking up the save.

The Lions (10-2-1) fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning but a McSorley single through the left side that drove in Miguel Torres cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth. The Blue & White drew even one frame later when a Van Houten ground ball allowed Jackson Struve to come across.

The visitors took the lead for the first time when Williams singled and plated Chase Smith and Torres in the top of the seventh. Van Houten tacked on another run thanks to a triple to center field that pushed Williams across before scoring himself on a passed ball later in the stanza.

The Bullets (6-4) got one back in the bottom of the seventh but McSorley helped add an insurance run for Penn State Harrisburg in the ninth when his single through the left side drove in Williams before Stabley closed things out in the bottom of the frame.
