Lions Sweep Eagles; Improve To 4-2 In CAC

Harrisburg, PA. – Penn State Harrisburg Baseball team took advance of ten Mary Washington errors to pick up two shut out CAC victories. The Lions offense was led by Alex Cline who picked up five hits on the day. Starting pitchers Michael De Leon and Zach Gettys dominated the Eagles hitters, holding them scoreless while combined for 12 strikeouts.

How it Happened:

The Lions offense struck in the third inning of game one. After Tyler Aug walked and advanced to third on an error, Josh Brubaker drove a ball into center field scoring Aug. The Lions would then take control of the game in the fifth inning. After the Lions loaded the bases, Ryan McSorley flied out center field, driving in the second run of the game. Brett Williams would later add another sacrifice fly to center, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. The Lions would then take advantage of two more Mary Washington errors to score two more runs and hold a 5-0 lead.

 

The Lions would strike again in the seventh inning, scoring six runs on two hits and taking advantage of two more Eagles errors. During the rally Alex Cline would double to center field driving in two of the Lions runs. This would be plenty of runs for the Lions pitching staff lead by Michael De Leon who struck out six in six innings of action while only allowing two hits. Relievers Brad Richards, Bobby Patterson, and John Olcott each added an inning of pitching each to help the Lions close out the 14-0 victory.

 

Both teams reset for game two and the Lions would once again strike in the third inning. After a Cline double and an Aug walk, McSorley would crush a double into the right center gap, scoring both runners. The Lions would add a run in the sixth inning after a Bret Williams triple, Chris Iocca would reach on an error, scoring Williams. McSorely would add a RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to put the Lions ahead 4-0.

 

The Lions pitching staff would once again shut down the Mary Washington offense. Zach Gettys would pitch five shutout innings, striking out six batters along the way. Tristan James would pitch two no hit innings in relief and Justin Kaplan and Brendan Riotttio would add an inning each.
