Artley Leads Harrisburg Past the Captains

Middletown, Pa.- After a much needed win against York (Pa.) on Wednesday, the Penn State Harrisburg baseball team looked to grab their second win of the week against Christopher Newport. The Lion's split with the visitors, dropping the first 4-2, and winning the second 3-0.

In game one, Christopher Newport grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third off of two back to back singles. Harrisburg cut the visitors lead in half when Tom Denniston grounded out to short stop, chasing home Scott Angstadt Jr. to home. Harrisburg grabbed one more run in the sixth off of an error by the Captains second baseman. The visitors added two more runs in the seventh to seal a 4-2 victory in the first match up.
 
Travis VanHouten gave the Lion's their first run of the second game, reaching first base on an error by the Captains, as Connor Bowers advanced to home plate. Freshman Ethan Kell grabbed the second run off of a wild pitch by the Captains. In the 5th, Harrisburg tacked on one more run with a bases loaded walk from Kell. In the second matchup, Harrisburg kept the visitors scoreless thanks to a great game on the mound from Mark Artley. Artley gave up only four hits and struck out 12 batters.
 
With the split, Penn State Harrisburg improves with an 8-8 record in conference play. Harrisburg will travel to Salisbury on Saturday April 16th for their two final conference games. The double header is scheduled for 12 and 3:30 pm.
