Penn State Harrisburg Tops the Saints

Middletown, Pa.- The Penn State Harrisburg baseball team hosted the Marymount (Va.) Saints on Wednesday afternoon for a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) showdown. The Lion's defeated the visitors, 5-3, to move to 5-5 in league play.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first inning as Bobby Patterson (Wall, N.J / Wall) took the mound for Harrisburg. The Lion's got their first run of the game in the second inning as Scott Angstadt Jr. (Jarrettsville, Md. / North Harford) singled with the bases loaded, advancing Connor Bowers (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) to home plate. With the bases loaded once again a few minutes later, Blake Reiff (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) singled, sending Travis VanHouten (Saylorsburg, Pa. / Pleasant Valley) to home to grab a 2-0 lead against the Saints.  


Harrisburg added two more runs to their tally in the bottom of the fourth off of a double from Josh Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster County Christian) and a fielder's choice. Brubaker went on to score in the sixth off of a sacrifice fly by Reiff. Patterson brought home his fifth win of the season, striking out two batters and giving up only three runs. Brendan Riotto (Exton, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) also recorded his third save of the year, coming in for Harrisburg in the final two innings.

Harrisburg will hit the road on Saturday April 2nd for a double header at St. Mary's. Game times are scheduled for 1:00 and 4:30 pm.
