Lion's Stumble Against the Saints

Washington, D.C. - Marymount (Va.) got a late jump to overthrow Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon. In the conference matchup, the Lion's fell to the Saints, 16-13, at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.

The Lion's struck first at bat knocking in two runs in the opening inning. Connor Bowers (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) grounded out to second base, advancing Scott Angstadt Jr. (Jarrettsville, Md. / North Harford). The Saint's brought in two runs in the second to tie the game up at two. At the top of the third, Bowers grounded out for a second time, sending Angstadt to home plate once again. Harrisburg pulled ahead in the fifth off of a single from Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt). Harrisburg brought in two more runs thanks to a walk and an error by the Saint's third basemen.

Marymount remained silent until the eighth inning where they regained the lead for the final time. The Saint's carried in seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull ahead of Harrisburg. The Lion's made a strong final effort in the ninth inning as Chris Iocca (North Brunswick, N.J. / N. Brunswick Twp) and Blake Reiff (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) each hit a home run, bringing home two runs each.
