Harrisburg Dominates Averett

Danville, Va.- After a difficult loss to York (Pa.) yesterday, the Penn State Harrisburg baseball team looked to get their first win of their spring break trip this afternoon against Averett. The Lions dominated the first seven innings and went on to win, 10-3.

At the top of the first, Kevin Kremer (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey)  got Harrisburg off to a strong start as he doubled down the left line as Connor Bowers (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) ran to home plate. With bases loaded in the second, Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) singled to the left side, advancing Will Quiles (Tamiment, Pa. / East Stroudsburg North) for the Lion's second run of the game. Denniston would go on to hit two more times for Harrisburg, with a total of four RBI's. In the fifth ining, Quiles stole home to give Harrisburg a 5-0 lead on the Cougars.

Harrisburg had its biggest inning of the season so far during the top of the seventh. Ian Maier-Breed (Lumberton, N.J. / Holy Cross) stepped up to hit with the bases loaded once again. Breed flied out to center field with a sacrifice fly as Denniston stole second base off of an error by center field. Blake Reiff (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim) advanced to third on the error as Scott Angstadt Jr. (Jarrettsville, Md. / North Harford) ran home for the Lion's eighth run of the game. On Harrisburg's last hit of the game, Chris Iocca (North Brunswick, N.J. / N. Brunswick Twp) singled with two RBI's from Denniston and Reiff. Averett made one last stitch effort in the eighth inning but Harrisburg's early lead proved to be too much for the Cougars.  Bobby Patterson (Wall, N.J / Wall) came up big for Harrisburg as he pitched seven innings, allowing only five hits.

Harrisburg will face Averett once again tomorrow, March 7th,  in a double header at 12 and 3 pm.
