Lion's Split at Hood

Lion's Split at Hood

Frederick, Md.- The Penn State Harrisburg men's baseball team went 1-1 today when they traveled to Hood for a non-conference match up. The Lions won the first game 3-1 but fell in the second 5-4.

In game one the Lions scored their first run of the afternoon by an error attributed to Hood's short stop. Heading in to the top of the third, the game was tied up 1-1. Freshman Ian Maier-Breed (Lumberton, N.J. / Holy Cross) stepped up to the plate and hit the ball straight out to center field as Connor Bower (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) ran home for the Lions. A few minutes later, with bases loaded, Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) was hit by a pitch sending Kevin Kramer (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) to home plate for Harrisburg's final run of the game. Bobby Patterson helped keep Hood at bay, pitching five innings while only allowing one run and striking out three.

In game two, The Lions started very early in the first inning with a great ball hit down the third base side by Kremer, Will Quiles scored easily as Bowers advanced to second. Bowers was thrown out at first but did gain an RBI on the play with Quiles. Hood brought home five runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to get ahead 5-2. Although Harrisburg came up big in the final inning with two more runs from Ethan Kell (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) and Josh Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster County Christian), the Lions effort was not enough to overcome Hood. The Blazers went on to win 5-4.

Harrisburg will travel to Franklin and Marshall on Tuesday March 1st
