Lions Wrap Up Their Fall On the Diamond

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- After a rough 2010 season, the Penn State Harrisburg baseball team got back to basics during the fall practice season.  Most of the Lions' time was spent focused on fundamentals and working players through drills during the squad's first four weeks together.  The men wrapped up the fall by playing four of five scheduled Blue/White Series games.  This autumn marked the fifth year of intrasquad competition.

The Blue team was led by senior T.J. Houseal (Maytown, PA/Donegal) while senior Mark Chimel (Middletown, PA/Middletown) ran things for the White team.  After Game 1 ended in a 4-4 tie, Houseal's Blue bunch took the final three contests.  Although the final results of the Series were one-sided, the games were very competitive with each contest being decided during a single inning.

With only 13 returning players on the fall roster, the Blue/White Series presented a valuable opportunity for younger players and new additions to get some playing time with their new teammates and create team chemistry.  It also allowed fourth-year Head Coach Jim Tetkoskie to get a look at the new guys in game situations.

"We had a very good recruiting year and saw some good stuff from these guys over the last few weeks," he said.  "Now we need to see it carried into the spring."

The Lions' 2012 regular season officially gets underway in February when they visit Wesley College in Dover, DE.
