Penn State Harrisburg Splits With Cazenovia

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg men's baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader with NEAC foe Cazenovia College losing the first 0-4 and winning the second 4-1.

Neither team was able to score during the first seven innings of the first game, forcing an 8th inning to reach a final decision. After a handful of Nittany Lion errors early in the 8th, Cazenovia found themselves in scoring position with the bases loaded. Derrek Root was walked, scoring the first of four runs for the Wildcats. Colin Parry, Jerome Bright and Bryan Wilgocki each singled to give Cazenovia a 4-0 win.

Senior Barry Wiestling (Palmyra, PA/Lower Dauphin) pitched seven of eight full innings for the Nittany Lions, striking out three batters and only allowing six hits. John Robison (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) entered the game in the 8th inning to finish off the pitching duties.

TJ Houseal (Maytown, PA/Donegal), Nick Knull (Enola, PA/Cedar Cliff), Pat Worthington (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and Tim Gonzalez (Whittier, CA/St. Paul) all recorded hits in the loss.

Cazenovia led off the first inning of the second game with an early run by Jerome Bright. The Nittany Lions responded with their own run in the third inning to tie it up as Houseal touched home plate thanks to Josh Kefauver's (Wellsville, PA/Northern York) RBI.

In the fifth inning the Nittany Lions found their offensive rhythm, scoring three runs to gain a commanding 4-1 lead. Houseal singled to lead off the inning and Justin Zitsch (Marysville, PA/Susquenita) followed with a triple to bring Houseal home. Kefauver then singled to score Zitch. Nick Knull (Enola, PA/Cedar Cliff) doubled and advanced to third on a Wildcat error, pushing Zitsch home for another Nittany Lion run, bringing the final score to 4-1.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University on Wednesday, April 13 at 1:00PM.
