MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg men's baseball team opened up the 2011 spring season with a pair of games at Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Wesley College in Deleware. After dropping both games to the Eagles and Wolverines, the Nittany Lions refocused and headed to sunny Myrtle Beach, SC for spring training.
The NIttany Lions faced a plethora of tough non-conference opponents at the Ripken Experience Tournament including Wesley College, Eastern University, Catholic University and Swarthmore College. Although Penn State Harrisburg was unable to walk away with a win, they sharpened their skills and prepared for the NEAC season ahead of them. As NEAC West Runner-Ups, the NIttany Lions equipped themselves with all of the tools necessary to be successful in conference action.
In their first home game of the season, the Nittany Lions nabbed their first win over visiting Valley Forge Christian College. Dalton Trolinger's (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) 2 RBI's and 4 put-outs helped lead the Lions to victory. Pat Worthington (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) recorded a team high 9 put-outs.
With still half the season ahead of them, the 1-16 Nittany Lions are prepared to take on their conference opponents and keep their ultimate goal in sight; a NEAC championship.
Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Immaculata University on March 30th. This weekend the NIttany Lions will open conference play as they host SUNY Cobleskill at 12:00PM on Saturday and SUNY IT at 12:00PM on Sunday.
