Nittany Lions Come Up Short in Home Opener

MIDDLETOWN, PA – In the home opener a pitching duel in the first game and a slugging match in second game lead to two Penn State Harrisburg defeats Saturday, March 20th at the Penn State Harrisburg baseball field against visiting Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College, 2-1 and 12-10.

In game one, junior pitcher Barry Wiestling (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) allowed only two runs on seven hits striking out four batters.  He was over shadowed by Lebanon Valley's pitcher, Lee Krammes, who allowed one run on six hits striking out seven to capture Lebanon Valley's seventh win on the season.

Game two would feature a combined 22 runs off 21 hits with most of the hitting coming in the later innings of play. Going into the top of the third, three errors by the blue and white would lead to seven runs, five in which were unearned to break the 1-1 tie.

The Flying Dutchmen would tack on four more runs in the top of sixth to give Lebanon Valley a commanding 12-1 lead going into the bottom half of the inning.

The Nittany Lions would claw their way back with a five run sixth inning to close the gap on Lebanon Valley, 12-6 and would position themselves in the seventh with the tying run on second, but Grant Wiest would strike out the next two batters to collect the save and the 12-10 Lebanon Valley victory.
