Nittany Lions Capture First Wins of the Season

MIDDLETOWN, PA – Strong pitching earns Penn State Harrisburg baseball its first two victories of the season Saturday March 27thagainst conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill, 4-3 and 13-4.

In the first game, sophomore, Dan Vignola (West Islip, NY/West Islip), shut down the Fighting Tigers in 8 innings of play striking out 10 batters, allowing five hits and one earned run.

It would be a costly error in the top of the 7th inning, moving the runners in scoring position to allow the two RBI single by Andre Murray to tie the game at 3 apiece.

In the bottom half of the 8th inning, SUNY Cobleskill pitcher, Danny O'Brien, hit Pat Worthington (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and later Nick Knull (Enola, PA/Cedar Cliff)followed by walking Shawn Myers (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) to put himself in a two out jam. Senior Kevin Bowman (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) would hit the game-winning single to give the Nittany Lions the 4-3 victory in extra innings.

In game two, sophomores Mark Chimel (Middletown, PA/Middletown) and Drew Kramer (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) combined for a 2 earned run, four hit night, striking out six batters en route to the 13-4 Penn State Harrisburg win.

The Nittany Lions were able to score in every inning highlighted by a five run 4th inning which displayed a Worthington solo home run, his first of the season.

Worthington would finish the day going 4-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs. Bowman ended the day going 3-for-6 with three RBIs. Junior Josh Kefauver (Wellsville, PA/Northern York) added a 3-for-6 day with two RBIs and three runs.
