Women's Volleyball Sweeps Goucher

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team continued its strong play as of late with a 3-0 sweep of Goucher at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Oct. 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions (16-7) won their fourth match in a row on Wednesday night, sweeping Goucher (5-14) by set scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-14. Anna Ruff led the way with 13 kills, Megan Morris had 16 digs, and Alyssa Snyder racked up 32 assists.

The Blue & White took control midway through the first set, putting together a 7-2 run capped by a Julia Choe service ace. The visitors cut the deficit to three but kills by Melanie Sheaffer, Cheyanna Buckingham, and Tiniira Tubo thwarted the Gopher momentum with kills late in the set before Corrinne Cook ended things with a kill off a Snyder assist.

Things were tighter in the second set, with the score tied as late as 14-14. The Lions responded in crunch time, however, reeling off five of the game's last eight points, including the clinching kill from Ruff off another feed from Snyder.

The third and final set was all Penn State Harrisburg from the opening serve, as the home team jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Leading 19-12, the Lions scored six of the final seven points, capped by a combination block from Ruff and Sheaffer that clinched the set and the overall match.
