Women's Volleyball Sweeps Immaculata

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team made quick work of Immaculata in a three-set sweep at the Capital Union Building on Thursday night, Oct. 14. Melanie Sheaffer and Emmaline Stevens tallied nine kills apiece, Megan Morris had 18 digs, Alyssa Snyder racked up 26 assists, and Corrinne Cook had four service aces to lead the way. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Lions (13-7) got back in the win column with a sweep of Immaculata (4-9) in non-conference play on Thursday night, earning the victory by set scores of 25-17, 25-10, and 25-19. 

 

The home team fell behind in the early going of the opening set but reeled off seven consecutive points during a Tiniira Tubo service run to take command. Anna Ruff added a kill, Julia Choe recorded back-to-back service aces, and Sheaffer and Tubo went back-to-back with kills that clinched the first game for the Blue & White. 

 

Penn State Harrisburg scored the first eight points to begin the second set and eventually stretched the lead to 13 following a Stevens kill off a Ruff assist midway through the game. The Mighty Macs scored four in a row but the Lions responded by tallying eight of the next nine points before Alexa Henry put the finishing touches on set two with a kill off a feed from Snyder. 

 

The third set remained competitive until the midway point when the Blue & White put together a momentum-changing 10-1 run capped by another Stevens kill off an assist from Snyder. Leading by four late in the game, Sheaffer notched a kill before Penn State Harrisburg wrapped up the set and the match with an ace from Choe. 

 

NOTABLES 

- The sweep was Penn State Harrisburg's fifth three-set win of the season. 

Melanie Sheaffer and Emmaline Stevens each tallied a team-high nine kills. 

Megan Morris had 18 digs on the night, while Corrinne Cook added nine. 

- Alyss Snyder racked up 26 assists. 

- Corrinne Cook had four service aces and Tiniira Tubo added three of her own.  

- Tubo also tallied two solo blocks and a pair of block assists. 

 

WHO'S NEXT? 

The Lions will take part in United East tri-match action at St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 17.
