Hemler Named United East Defensive Player of the Week

LATHAM, N.Y. - Thanks to her strong play in a pair of shutout victories last week, Penn State Harrisburg's Sydney Hemler has been named the United East Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Hemler was outstanding on both ends of the field, helping hold John Jay to zero shots in a 4-0 win on Monday night. The defender also added a goal in the win over the Bloodhounds. The Boiling Springs, Pa. native followed it up by burying the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to her efforts, the Blue & White secured the 2021 United East Regular Season Championship. Hemler netted two markers to tally four total points on the week, while also leading a defensive unit that held its opposition scoreless for the 11th and 12th times this season.

The Lions wrap up the regular season when they host Bryn Mawr on Thursday night, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
