Women's Basketball Heads to SUNY New Paltz for NCAA Action

INDIANAPOLIS - For the first time in program history, Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team is heading to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, as revealed by the tournament selection committee on Monday afternoon, Feb. 26.

 

The Lions (17-11) won their first United East Championship on Saturday afternoon to clinch the league's automatic qualifier. Penn State Harrisburg will take on the pod hosts from No. 25 SUNY New Paltz (24-3) at New Paltz's Hawk Center on Friday night, March. 1. The Lions and the Hawks are joined in the region by Trinity (Conn.) (19-7) and Baldwin Wallace (20-6). The winners of Friday's matchups will meet in second round action on Saturday night.

 

All tournament games leading up to the national semifinals will be played on the campuses of the competing institutions. Sixteen sites will host four teams for first and second round competition, with second round winners advancing to the Sweet 16 in two weeks. Winners of the four quarterfinal contests will advance to the Elite Eight, with those winners moving on to the Final Four. Both the Final Four and national championship will be contested in Fort Wayne, Ind. The national championship game will be played on March 16.
