Carter’s Double-Double not enough to lift Lions

Middletown, Pa. - Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY/ Milton Hershey) went for 22 points and 18 rebounds in a Penn State Harrisburg loss to the Southern Virginia Knights 65-63 Wednesday January 7th.

The Lady Lions came in looking to get their third win in the Capital Athletic Conference while the Knights hoped to get their first. Both teams came out firing on all cylinders as they stayed within two points for most of the first half until the Lions went on an 11-2 run with 3:05 to go which put them up by nine going into the half. Carter went for a double-double in the first half with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue and White led by as much as nine in the second half before running out of gas. Southern Virginia used a 16-0 run over an eight minute span to go ahead 59-50 with 5:03 left to play. Harrisburg went cold from the field going 0-9 during the Knights' run. The Lady Lions were able to cut the lead to 61-60 with only 53 seconds remaining. Sophomore Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa / Palmyra Area) had a contested shot at the buzzer to tie the game but was not able to connect as the Lions fell at home 65-63.

Carter was huge keeping the Lady Lions close by boasting a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds. Carmo added 12 points and 4 rebounds of her own in the defeat. Freshman Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md/ Magruder) netted three from deep keeping the Knights on their toes down the stretch.

Penn State Harrisburg will hit the road to take on Christopher Newport Saturday January 10th at 2pm.
