Men's Soccer Advances to Conference Championship Game

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The No. 20 Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer team shut out Penn State Abington 2-0 in United East Tournament Semifinal action on Friday night, Nov. 5 to advance to Saturday evening's tournament championship game.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg (14-1-1) advanced to its second consecutive conference championship game thanks to a 2-0 blanking of No. 4 Penn State Abington (8-7-3) in United East Tournament Semifinal action on Friday night. The Lions will face Lancaster Bible for the conference title on Saturday night.

 

After a couple of chances that just missed the mark, the home team finally got on the board when Jose Palomeque connected with Tyler Madairy on a free kick following a Penn State Abington foul. Madairy's one touch found the back of the net to give Penn State Harrisburg the lead in the 25th minute.

 

The one-goal advantage held steady into the second half before goalkeeper Nicholas Guglielmetti made the biggest defensive play of the night when he turned away a penalty kick attempt from Penn State Abington's Michael Thomas in the 59th minute.

 

Penn State Harrisburg eventually put things out of reach and punched its ticket to the conference title game when Sebastian Krysztofowicz fired his attempt past Penn State Abington goalkeeper Brendan Werner with just 2:38 left to play off a find by Madairy.
