Women's Soccer Tops St. Mary's (Md.) In Regular Season Finale

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team closed out the regular season by extending its shutout streak to eight in a row with a 1-0 blanking of United East foe St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29.

 

The Lions (12-3-3, 7-0-1 United East) worked through a scoreless first half and eventually broke through early in the second half when Makayla Grace Weber sent a ball into the box and Mackenzie Mowery fired a shot off a Seahawk defender that ricocheted into the back of the net for what proved to be the game winner in the 60th minute. 

 

NOTABLES

- For the second year in a row, Penn State Harrisburg finished unbeaten in conference play.

- The shutout was the team's eight straight and 13th of the season.

- Mowery's marker was her fifth of the year. 

- Weber's assist was her team-leading seventh of the fall.

- The Lions finished with a slight 7-6 edge in total shots. 

- Each team earned five corner kicks. 

 

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions will look to defend their 2021 conference championship when they take part in next weekend's United East Tournament. Matchups and game times will be announced on Sunday evening.
