Men's Hoops Caps Opening Weekend With Win Over UMW

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team wrapped up its opening weekend with a 75-64 victory over Mary Washington at the Capital Union Building on the final day of the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Classic presented by Comfort Inn & Suites Harrisburg Airport Hershey South on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (2-0) used a strong second half to finish off its opening weekend with its second win in as many days, this time over former conference foe Mary Washington (1-1) on Sunday afternoon. Donyae Baylor-Carroll led all scorers with 20 points, Nate Curry netted 16, and Zegary Scott III added 11.

The Lions raced out to a 9-3 lead thanks to a Baylor-Carroll 3-ball at the 17:32 mark before the visitors cut the deficit to one. The Blue & White pushed the advantage to as many as nine in the first half when Dylan Daniels knocked down a 3-pointer to cap an 8-0 run with 8:18 left before the break but the Eagles closed out the half with a 18-9 run to draw even heading into the locker room.

UMW grabbed its first lead early in the second half but the Lions answered back with an 8-0 run that included three layups from Scott and Brandon Coleman. The visitors reclaimed the lead thanks to an Anias Saunders layup with 15:02 remaining but a Baylor-Carroll old-fashioned 3-point play sparked Penn State Harrisburg and started an 11-0 run.

The home team stretched the advantage to 11 following a pair of free throws from Curry with 3:09 left to play before converting multiple foul shots down the stretch to seal the program's first win over Mary Washington in 14 tries.
