Stevens, Richardson Shine In Tri-Match Split at York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball took part in tri-match action at York (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 11. The Lions erased an early deficit to claim a 3-1 victory over Keuka in the nightcap after suffering their first loss of the young season when they fell to the hometown Spartans 3-0 in the opening contest.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the team's first outing of the day, Penn State Harrisburg fell to the hosts from York (Pa.) at Charles Wolf Gymnasium by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-20.

 

The Lions (2-1) made things tough on the Spartans (3-2) and kept it close throughout the match, particularly in the first and third sets. The visitors led late in the bookending sets but York (Pa.) was able to slow the Blue & White momentum in crunch time and put together crucial stretches in the late moments to pull out a hard-earned sweep.

 

The second match was a different story. After dropping the first set, the Lions reeled off three straight victories to secure a 21-25, 25-17, 29-27, 25-21 win over Keuka.

 

Penn State Harrisburg (3-1) impressed in the second set en route to an eight-point win before gritting out a narrow victory in extra time in the third game. The Lions wrapped things up with a four-point decision in the fourth and deciding set to clinch the win over the Wolves (3-3) and a .500 record on the afternoon.

 

NOTABLES

- Setter Katie Richardson was stellar in the win over Keuka, tying the single-match program record with 48 assists.

- Emmaline Stevens also impressed against the Wolves, racking up 20 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Her kill total is the third-highest single-match total in program history.

- Olivia Koicuba tallied 16 digs against Keuka and Megan Morris added a dozen of her own.

- Corrinne Cooke recorded three service aces in the second outing.

- Melanie Sheaffer tallied 11 kills in the second match and Cheyanna Buckinham added eight.

- Stevens also led the way offensively against York (Pa.), finishing with a team-high seven kills.

- Koicuba posted 10 digs against the Spartans, while Morris and Cook tallied eight apiece.

- Alyssa Snyder assisted on 17 points in the first match of the day.

- Alexa Henry had three service aces in the opener.

The Lions return home to host Mount Aloysius at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Sept. 14. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
