Lions come up short on Opening Day

The Lions opened their regular season at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic where they faced both Gettysburg College and Messiah College. The team fell short in both matches with a final match score of 3-0.

Penn State Harrisburg took on the Gettysburg Bullets in the first match, losing by the set scores of 25-10, 25-20, 25-19. Leading the way for the Lions were Madison Chace (Paso Robles, Ca / Cedar Cliff) and Melissa Orlandini (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin), both with 6 kills. Also leading the way for the Lions, was sophomore setter, Casey Stump (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) with 19 assists. After the tough loss, the Lions looked to the second match of the day, facing off with the Messiah Falcons.

During the second match of the day, the Lions fought a good fight against the Falcons but lost by a set score of 25-10, 25-10, 25-17. Despite the loss, the team had key highlights throughout the matches. Kari Ammerman (Troy, Pa / Troy Area) had 7 digs and Orlandini had 6 kills and 2 digs.

The Lady Lions will look to rebound when they face both Curry and Neumann, on Saturday, Sept. 5th in day two at the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic.
