Taylor Breaks Out at Bucknell's Bison Open and Multi

Day One Results

LEWISBURG, Pa. – After snow and ice forced the program into an inconvenient idle weekend six days ago, Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams returned to action at Bucknell on the opening night of the Bison Open and Multi on Friday, Jan. 25.

The off weekend did little to slow the progress of a number of Lions, particularly that of Rae Rae Taylor and Jalil Clayton. Taylor had an outstanding night, as she racked up 3,331 points in the pentathlon after winning three of the five events and breaking a pair of program records. The sophomore won the high jump portion with a top leap of 1.60 meters, the shot put stage thanks to her best toss of 10.93 meters and the long jump portion with a top bound of 5.28 meters. Her high jump mark and her time of 2:34.28 in the 800m run earned her a share of first and set a new standard in the program's record book. Taylor's total score is good enough to currently rank her fifth in the nation in the event.

Clayton continued to be a model of consistency in the 60m hurdles, earning a share of event's top spot thanks to his time of 8.18 seconds. The reigning Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Week has now posted times of 8.15, 8.17, and 8.18 seconds in the race this winter. The senior also impressed in the 200m dash, finishing seventh in a field of 54 competitors after crossing the line in 22.86 seconds.

Other top efforts came from Dominick Hogans in the 200m dash, as his time of 22.98 in the event earned him a ninth-place finish in the field of 50-plus runners. In the women's 200m dash, Aiyala McPhee was 17th in a group of 80 total competitors, finishing as the third-highest Division III student-athlete in the race thanks to an effort of 27.01. Neeyah Turner was also solid, as her mark of 27.85 secured her 35th place.

Elsewhere, Sarah Lehman just missed out on a top-15 finish in the women's 60m hurdles, while Jamilyn Nimo competed in the women's shot put. Shammah Gahomera was also in action in the men's 60m hurdles.

The Blue & White will wrap up their weekend at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26. The day's events get underway at 10 a.m. when Lehman takes part in the women's long jump. Throwing events are set to follow at 10:30 a.m. and action on the track will begin at 11 a.m.
