Phifer Claims 800 Meter Win at Jim Taylor Invitational

Selinsgrove Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's track and field team competed at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University on Sunday March 30th.

The men had more than a few quality performances.  Josiah Owhe (Westbury, N.Y. / Westbury) claimed a fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash followed by Korey Christian(Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas) who took fifth.  Joshua Okonkwo (Ikuyi, Nigeria / Christ the King College) ran a 52.73 in the 400 meter dash to place fifth. 

Joe Phifer (Union, N.J. / Union) had the best individual finish of the day in the 800 meter run.  Phifer ran a 1:58.51 to bring home a first place finish.  Jalen Williams (Easton, Pa. / Easton) also did well just .15 seconds behind the winner Sterlyn Elder from Frostburg St. in the 200 meter dash. Christian was again in contention finishing fourth. 

The speedy Lions 4x400 meter relay of Phifer, James Keith (Philadelphia, Pa. / Imhotep Institute), Williams, and Christian finished in first place with a team time of 3:31.78.  

On the women's side the Lions did not have as many compete, but still pulled in some quality results.  In the 200 meter dash, Atinuke Adeshola (Houston, Tx. / The Woodlands) ran a 28.19 to place sixth, just two runners behind the Blue and White head coach Danielle Lynch who set pace and took third running unattached with her 27.30. 

She was also pleased with her team's performance, "I am quite proud of our men's and women's teams for their spirit in supporting one another and representing our university well. The team was excited to compete after missing last weekend's first true outdoor competition due to a weather cancellation."

The Blue and White next head to the Millersville Metrics on Saturday April 4th.
