Women's Tennis Impresses at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team continued its recent strong play with an 8-1 victory at Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28.

 

It was all Penn State Harrisburg in doubles play, as the Lions (3-1) won all three outings to take a commanding lead in singles action. Rachael Lim and Sydney Nye picked up an 8-5 win in the No. 1 contest, Elle Mellott an Courtney Bennett picked up an 8-3 victory in the second doubles matchup, and the team of Vaishnavi Datta and Gabrielle Sabatose earned an 8-3 decision in the No. 3 outing.

 

The Blue & White were also nearly perfect in solo play, with Lim, the two-time defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, topping SU's Ashlynn Searer 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 1 match, Nye besting the River Hawks' Haley White 7-6, 6-0 in the No. 2 contest, and Datta handling Anna Ream 6-3, 6-2 in the third outing.

 

Claire Hackenberg worked hard for a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win over Susquehanna's Leanne Van Essendelft in the No. 5 pairing and Sabatose rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Chelsea Kneedler in the sixth matchup.

 

The Lions will look to keep the momentum rolling when they return home to host Albright at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 2.
