ANNVILLE, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg fell by the slimmest of margins in the team's second outing of the young season, dropping a 5-4 decision at Lebanon Valley's Shankroff Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19.
The Lions (1-1) fell behind in doubles action but Racahel Lim and Sydney Nye combined to give the visitors their first win of the day; an 8-3 victory over LVC's Melanie Haas and Emily Wilczek in the No. 1 contest.
The top of the Blue & White's singles lineup was strong, with Lim, the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Week, making quick work of Nicole Honrade thanks to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 1 match, while Nye worked hard for her 6-4, 6-7, 6-0 victory over Haas in the second matchup.
The Flying Dutchmen (1-2) were able to hold off Penn State Harrisburg in the middle of the lineup and clinch the overall victory, despite valiant efforts from Vaishnavi Datta and Elle Mellott in the third and fourth contests, respectively. Claire Hackenberg came away with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win against Zoe Birch in the No. 6 outing.
The Lions are back in action when they host Elizabethtown for their home opener at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22.
