Women's Soccer Blanks Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team secured its second shutout victory of the young season with a 2-0 decision over non-conference opponent Bryn Mawr on Wednesday night, Sept. 11. 

 

The Lions (2-2-1) were in control for much of the evening in the team's second win of the year, netting a pair of goals and nearly tacking on a few more throughout the night. Although the first half went scoreless for both squads, the Blue & White was on the attack often as they recorded 10 shots and three corner kicks. 

 

At the 54-minute mark, Ava Myers found the back of the net thanks to a give-and-go assist from Julia Hughes to put the away team up by one. Four minutes later, Kylie Yap added an insurance goal after a Penn State Harrisburg corner that got kicked out to Yap and she sent a laser into the top left corner of the goal from almost 25 yards out. 

 

The Blue & White continued to challenge Bryn Mawr (1-1-2) up 2-0, but Owls' goalkeeper had two saves in the final 15 minutes to stop the Lions from extending the lead. 

 

NOTABLES

- With the win, the Lions improved to 4-0 all-time against Bryn Mawr. 

- Myers' marker was her second of the season, while Yap recorded the first goal of her career against the Owls. 

- Hughes had the lone assist on the night for Penn State Harrisburg. 

- Diana Pon led the the away team with five total shots, four of which were on frame. 

- In just over 80 minutes of play, Lions' goalkeeper Sydney Mulka only faced one shot on goal.

The Lions are set to host another non-conference opponent Franklin & Marshall on Sunday night, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
