How It Happened

After falling behind in the early going, Penn State Harrisburg made a late push and scored a pair of goals in the closing minutes before running out of time in a 4-2 loss to a talented Susquehanna squad at Nittany Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23.

The River Hawks (12-3-1) struck early and often, with Katherine Ross netting the game's first goal just six minutes into the contest and Anna Werner doubling the visitor's advantage with a strike in the 33rd minute. Werner added a penalty kick seven minutes after halftime and Marley Clenendin found twine off an assist from Jenny Charles to push the lead to four in the 71st minute.

The Lions (7-9-1) showed signs of life in the final 16 minutes, with Sheila Ansary getting the home team on the board with a marker off a Marley Moore feed with 15:45 left to play. The push continued when Madison Hemler hooked up with Rhyan Socash on corner kick insertion that Socash finished off with less than 12 minutes remaining.

Socash and Elizabeth Clippinger each got off a shot on goal in the final 10 minutes but SU goalkeeper Chloe Wieczkowski was there to make the stops and put an end the Blue & White's hopes of coming all the way back.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions were outshot 17-to-9 overall and 11-to-5 in shots on target.

- Susquehanna racked up eight corner kicks, compared to three for the Blue & White.

- Rhyan Socash's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season.

- Sheila Ansary's marker was her second of the fall.

- Hannah Williams made seven saves in goal for Penn State Harrisburg.

- SU goalkeeper Madi Welliver got the win after making just one save.

- Backup goalkeeper Chloe Wieczkowski made a pair of saves down the stretch for the River Hawks.

The Lions return to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action when they travel to take on Wells on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
