How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg twice overcame single-goal deficits and tallied a pair of scores in the final 10 minutes to secure the team's first victory of the season; a 3-2 decision over Waynesburg at Nittany Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, August 31.

Trailing 2-1 with nine minutes remaining, the Lions (1-1) took advantage of a Waynesburg foul when Madison Hemler lofted a free kick into the box that Mackenzie Haladay redirected towards Hollie Holthaus who headed the equalizer into the back of the net with 8:47 left to play.

Little more than three minutes later, Rhyan Socash collected a ball near on the visitors' side of midfield and outraced a Yellow Jackets defender before beating goalkeeper Autumn Blair and giving the Blue & White its first lead of the afternoon with 5:14 remaining; an advantage the home team wouldn't relinquish.

Leesha Wagner scored the game's opening goal in the 16th minute and Waynesburg (1-1) held the lead until Holthaus headed home her first marker of the day off Haladay's first assist of the contest in the early minutes of the second half.

Wagner added her second score in the 62nd minute, swinging the momentum back in favor of the visitors. Ultimately, however, the Lions' late surge capped by Socash's go-ahead goal proved the difference.

Inside the Numbers

- Penn State Harrisburg finished with a 15-to-9 advantage in total shots and a 10-to-6 edge in shots on target.

- The Blue & White earned four corner kicks, compared to just one for Waynesburg.

-  Rhyan Socash's game-winning goal was also her first of the fall.

- Hollie Holthaus' pair of markers were her first of the young season.

- Mackenzie Haladay assisted on both of Holthaus' headers.

- Hannah Williams made four saves in goal in preserving the victory for the Lions.

- Waynesburg goalkeeper Autumn Blair made seven stops in net.

The Lions hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Elizabethtown for a matchup under the lights on Tuesday night, Sept. 3.
