How It Happened

The Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer team opened their 2019 campaign by taking on Randolph Macon College. The Lions struggled to find the offense success early in the game, but their defense managed the pressure from the Yellow Jackets offense attack. Hannah Williams anchored the defense making 11 saves, and kept the defense organized for most of the game.

The Yellow Jackets would get on the scoreboard first, striking in the 21st minute. The Lions looked to counter when Kristen Stark missed her first shot of the season just wide of the goal. Moments before the end of the first half, Madison Hemler sent a shot from outside the box, that barely carried over the cross bar.

In the second half, Randolph Macon continued to control possession, taking 25 shots to the Lions four shots. The Yellow Jackets added a second goal in the 67th minute, putting more pressure on the Blue & White. Rhyan Socash almost got Harrisburg on the board in the second half, when she ripped a shot on goal, but after a brief bobble the Yellow Jackets goalie Edye Carr made the save.
