Lions Look Poised to Defend NEAC Title

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - As the 2009 NEAC Champions, the Lady Lions knew they would have to bring their "A" game against the 2010 regular season champions, the SUNY IT Wildcats. The Wildcats went 11-0 in the regular season conference play but the Lady Lions put a stop to their perfect NEAC record with 2-1 win on Saturday. The upset sends the Lady Lions to the NEAC Championship game against Keuka College on Sunday, November 7 at 3PM.

The Wildcats were the first to score as Kristina Strang netted a goal from the box on a breakaway. At the 28th minute, Shelly Erb (Jonestown, PA/Northern Lebanon) took a free kick finding Kara Hoy (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) to net the first Lady Lion goal of the game. The match entered intermission with a 1-1 tie.

In hopes of defending their title, the Lady Lions entered the second half strong. At the 61st mintue Jessie Manion (North Wales, PA/North Penn High) gathered a rebound and knocked in the final goal of the game to give the Lady Lions a win in the semi-finals and send them to the NEAC Championship.

Penn State Harrisburg will face Keuka College for the second time this season. The first meeting of the NEAC foes ended in a double over time tie. If the Lady Lions win the NEAC Championship they will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
