AURORA, N.Y. - On the first night of a two-day stay in New York, Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team got back on track with a 75-8 road victory over United East foe Wells on Friday night, Feb. 3.
Macy Carroll connected on five 3-pointers and netted a career-high 16 points, while Ciani Redd-Howard finished with 11. Despite limited minutes, Jayla Galbreath and Kendis Butler added nine and eight points, respectively. Mikayla Wright flirted with a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds and six points.
Aided by early 3-balls from Galbreath and Butler, along with an Olivia Richardson layup and a pair of Wright free throws, the Lions (12-8, 9-2 United East) raced out to a 13-0 lead before the Express (0-20, 0-11 United East) got on the board late in the opening quarter.
Galbreath opened the second with another triple, while Redd-Howard and Carroll got into the scoring act from beyond the arc to stretch the advantage to 26-2 midway through the frame before Wells ended the 13-0 run with a layup before the end of the first half.
After the break, Butler kept things rolling with a steal and score on the other end before banging another trey a few possessions later to make it 37-4 early in the third quarter. Giahny Correa and Redd-Howard hit consecutive 3-pointers and Carroll scored the final four points of the stanza to stretch it to 49-6 heading into the fourth.
Ja-Shae McLean opened the final quarter with a layup and Carroll stayed hot by burying three straight from distance to extend the advantage to 65-8 with 5:35 remaining. After a Makayla Claggett triple, Sydney Hemler scored six in a row before McLean put a bow on the contest's scoring with a late free throw.
