How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Morrisville State 102-70 in the team's regular season finale on Saturday afternoon Feb. 22.

Kendis Butler got the Lions offense started in the first quarter, connecting on an early 3-pointer. After Morrisville State took a four-point lead, Madison Hemler connected on a 3-pointer of her own to pull the team back within one. Moments later, Butler would connect again from deep, leveling the score at 10. Butler then connected for a third time from beyond the arc to give Harrisburg a one-point lead. Jayla Galbreath added her first 3-pointer of the game. Butler who would go on to lead the Lions in scoring with 24 points, hit her fourth three-pointer of the openning quarter to give the Lions a two-point lead. Morrisville State closed the first quarter on a 6-2 run, taking a 23-21 lead into the second quarter.

After Morrisville State scored the opening five points of the second quarter, Butler would connect on her fifth 3-pointer of the game. Galbreath followed with another triple, this time pulling the Lions back within a single point. The Mustangs would respond, scoring the next 13 points, taking control of the game in the process. Galbreath knocked down a buzz beating 3-pointer just before the half, but the Lions trailed 49-32 at the break.  

Butler tried to start a Lions rally in the third quarter, connecting three times from beyond the arc in the opening three minutes, but the Mustangs answered each basket continuing to hold an 18-point advantage. On Butler's eighth 3-pointer of the game, she became the programs single season points leader, having scored 411 points this season. Morrisville St. behind leading scorer Tori Rockefller, who scored 23 points, connected on 14 3-pointers and used several runs to put the game out of reach, winning 102-70.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions were led by Kendis Butler who scored 24 points, including knocking down eight 3-pointers

- Jayla Galbreath scored 11, adding three more 3-pointers

- The Lions won the rebounding battle, holding a 35-30 advantage

- Harrisburg continued their excellent 3-point shooting this season and have now made 246 total this winter

- Morrisville State was led by Tori Rockefeller who scored 23 points

Historical Note

Kendis Butler became the program's leader in points scored in a single season, netting 411 points this season. Butler passed previous record-holder Mercedes Copeland on Saturday.

Who's Next?

The Lions will travel to face Penn State Berks in the first round of NEAC Playoff Tournament on Tuesday night, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
